Muscle Activation Techniques or MAT is a highly effective way to help you re-engage muscle that might not be working as well as they should be. Over time, stress, injury and inflammation can caused diminished use of certain muscles. The body will react to avoid pain. When a muscle is injured, this puts the body into an unbalanced state and after the muscle heals, the person may have gotten used to how the body adapted so instead of returning to normal, the muscle become dormant.

Who is a Candidate for MAT?

Even a minor loss in range-of-motion indicates muscle weakness, which can be caused by a multitude of factors such as:

● Sitting for prolonged periods of time

● Overuse/injury

● Trauma (car accident/sports injury/health condition)

● Arthritis or fibromyalgia

In these instances, fatigued muscles may not have the time to recover after sustaining a particular movement or position for extended periods of time. The nervous system, which controls the brain, nerves, and indirectly, muscle function, sends messages to the body when a muscle is stressed, thus altering its ability to contract effectively. This reduces range of motion, leading to muscle weakness.

Often individuals experiencing muscle weakness or loss of movement might be sent to physical therapy. From there, however, many are told to exercise or “stay active,”
